Twenty-two year-old Nadhi Muhammed is one of the many students who have found success through the Job Corps program and in the apartment industry. . He is a star performer as a Maintenance Technician for Equity Residential and was awarded with Equity’s 2008 Above & Beyond Award for his demonstration of excellence.
At the age of 18, Nadhi came to the United States from Ethiopia and was encouraged by his brother to join the local Job Corps Center in Hazelton, Pa. He enrolled in plumbing classes and learned how to put a waterline in the ground, replace dishwashers, garbage disposals, showers and toilets. He also earned his high school diploma and got a driver’s license. Through Job Corps, he developed the skills necessary to get along with people and work with a team.
Now Nadhi is one of five community maintenance technicians. He enjoys responding to resident requests and knows that a positive attitude is key. Many of his daily tasks are similar to the work he did at Job Corps. At Equity he is responsible for replacing appliance parts, servicing faulty plumbing and fixing any other problems in the building. He continually demonstrates ongoing diligence to his supervisors and is willing to go above and beyond his role.
